I saw that you mentioned the old NASA pen vs. Russian pencil analogy in the article. I think you might want to read up on the history of the Fisher space pen, because it's a very good example of the kind of space commercialization you are trying to pull off. The pen was created by an American inventor without any NASA funding. He then sold his pens to NASA and the general public. I have also heard that the cosmonauts use them now instead of pencils, but you would know better than I if they do or not.
